CHAMPIONSHIP CONDITIONS.

The Royal anc Ancient Championship Committee has been holding one of its rare meetings ir. London. . , It considered a, petition which has heen much canvassed in recent weeks urging a radical alteration in the con ditions of the amateur championships, j? preponderating body, of top-notchers, in eluding Tolley, suggested the substiitutioi iot the present knock-out.of a preliminar; thirty-six holes stroke competition, onl; the best thirty-two in which should re main for the thirty-six lfble match pla; knock-out. The committee decided no to alter the conditions for 1922,' bn undertook to consult the wishes of com petitors in regard' to the future substi ■tution of , thirty-six for eighteen-hol matches throughout the competition. The committee decided to accept ai invitation to send a team to America. In connection with the open champion ship at Sandwich, a driving competitio will be arranged, the results of whic will form the basis for further investiga tion of the standard ball question.
