MIRAMAR CLUB

The annual meeting of the Miramar 3olf Club states that the membership >f the club has been fairly well mainlined. At the end of the year there .vas almost a full list of members in the nen's club, but in the ladies' club there were twenty vacancies. The financial position may be considered fairly sound; Aiter, allowing .for -depreciation the year's working shows a profit of £73 17s 12d." As a result the club has been enabled to carry out various improvements, such as planting trees, and making a beginning with a putting green. Heavy expenditure, however, has been incurred' in securing suitable soil and turf,' and in -providing basic, slag and lime. The result aimed at warrants considerable outlay in this direction. The work of beautifying the grounds in the vicinity of the club-house has been much delayed owing to the necessity for a better system of drainage. The committee had obtained an exhaustive report, and complete plans and specifications. The year has been noteworthy for the enthusiasm of members. Keen interest was taken in the many club competitions, and in the inter-club matches. The winners of the. various championships and other competitions are:. Championships—Men's senior, 'S. Turner; 'men's- junior, J. G. Hughes; ladies' senior, Miss. Gambrill; ladies' junior, Mrs. Tait. The Doughty Memorial Cup, won by T. G. Young and E. R. Nicholson; Prince 1 of Wales Cup, won by L. W. Grace; Captain's Trophy, won by S. Gambrill; Tree Planting Cup, won by J. T. Lewis; Record Score Cup and Holmes Cup, by Miss Withers; Kirkcaldie Trophy, by Miss Muir, and ■'"knock-put" match by Mrs. Widdop. A complete and correct list; has been drawn up for the war memorial tablet, and the work in now in hand. In December, Mr. J. C. Williamson resigned the position of secretary, and was succeeded by Mr. A. Erskine.'
