LESSENING THE STAFF
MORE DEFENCE RETRENCHMENT.
For some time past it has been known that, in view of.the attitude adopted by Parliament, further retrenchment in the Defence Department was inevitable. The scheme has apparently bsen decided on, for somo 27 officers and 70 non-commis-sioned officers have received notification of the termination of their engagements. The list has not yet been published, but it in understood that, with the exception of three or four, the officers affected are of the rank of captain and below.
