LICENSING COMMITTEE AT OTAKI
DRINKING AMONG MAOEI WOMEN
At the quarterly meeting of the Otaki Licensing Comimttee (states The Post's correspondent) . the members- pre-sant ■ were: Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. (chairman), and Mfcsrs. J. M'Leavey, W. H. Bow-, den, B. Ling, and T; H. Windley. The transfer 'of the license of the > Levin Hotel from J. W. Speight to A. J. I?amsbottom-Isherwood, and the Manakau Hotel from H. J. Aitken to A. Walshaw were granted. .
The police report referred to the amount of drinking that was going on among Maori women in Otaki, and stated that one publican was convicted of this offence during the month of February. ■
The chairman stated that the committee haa determined to deal severely with licensees convicted of this offence. A spcond offender Would probably lose his license. ■ • . '
Constable Sotherley : "Generally speaking, a number of Maori women under the influence of drink can be seen about the streets every Saturday night." \ The' chairman: "Licensees; can take warning that drastic consequences will follow where convictions are recorded against them." .
