VERY HEAVY RAIN

ON THE WEST COAST.

(BI TMOJIAPH.—MESS AISOCMHOS.)

WESTPORT, 3rd March. Very heavy rain, thought to be due to the bursting of a cloud, occurred in the> Karamea district on Wednesday. It washed away three bridges on the Arapito-road and three chains of road at UTanity Creek, brought down great landslips on the Mokihinui-Karamea-road, and did a considerable amount of other damage.

The Minister of Public Works had contemplated making a " trip through Karamea to Westport, but it is probable that he will have to recast his programme.
