Mervyn Gannon, the young man who was severely injured by a shark whilst bathing at Coogee, has a chance of recovering. > A proposal is before the trustees of the Chalmers Fund, which now amounts to £300, for a portion to be granted; to Brown, who rescued Gannon.
The Lordi Mayor suggests the formation of a fundi on the lines of the Bulli disaster fund, for the purpose of rewarding acts of heroism in the surf or elsewhere. '■'..■-..-.
; The Government has set aside 100 'guineas'"as'rewards 'for 'the. capture of sharks, with £50 sterling for the capture of. the shark responsible for the Coogee tragedies. . Diver Jackson has secured permission to attempt to kill the shark, which-apparently is lying in "wait for further victims. He says be will explore the bottom in "full diving dress, armed with a sheath knife, until he finds the monster.
