FALLEN CUSTOMS DUTIES
Total Customs and Excise duties collected for the quarter ended 31st December last show a substantial fall as compared with the last quarter of 1920, being £1,104,480 as against £2,192,938 for December, 1920. Less quantities of spirits paid the new higher duties; even so receipts from that source of revenue are well down. There have been, substantial reductions, .too, in the receipts from duties on ■ cigars, cigarettes, and tobacco. For the years 1921 and 1920 the duties'were £5.671,715 and £7,953,----477 respectively. Excise duties show a slight increase of '£7735. i
