George Hunt, who was arrested last month with Frederick Hunfrj his brother, and George Walter Walters, ah ex-en-gineer; were charged at the Barry Police! Court With conspiring to defraud, a- professional punter of £500. . The prosecutor said h 6 had a tale to tell more like the "Arabian Nights" than everyday life. When George Hunt, in June, 1919, issued a circular asking for money to work a> racing systein,\an avalanche of remittances poured ih from nil parts of the country at the rate of two thousand daily. People sold their estates', and mortgaged their properties,, in order to participate. Some ceased work on the strength of their investments. Hunt was offering £17 weekly for £100 invested. Interest payments wei'e made for two or three rnotiths, and then stopped. All classes of society weie included among the Victims.

[Geoi'ge Hunt was arrested ori a warrant issued on the application of Harold Lloyd, a solicitor of Cardiff, on a charge of obtaining- £500 by false pretences from a professional backer. Lloyd stated that the matter was connected with a bogus turf scheme, by which, ft whs alleged, £3,600,000 _ had been obtained from people in various parts of the country.]
