PLEASANT VOYAGE
IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE FROM: HOME.
A further batch of immigrants,, numbering 89, arrived in Wellington to-day by the R'imutaka from .Southampton. They are all nominated passengers, and have come to friends in NewmZealand. They appear to be, a healthy 16J£^and all passed medical inspection this mp'taing. The numbers for the various parts of New Zealand . are:,;, Wellington,'2l, Auckland 23, • Ha-wkes Bay 5, Gisboilis 5, New Plymouth 3; Canterbury" 9, Marlboroiigh 9, Otago 12, Southland 1, and Westland 1! The North Island immigrants came ashore at Wellington'today, but, those for the South Island go down by the1 Rimutaka this evening to Lytteiton.
Besides the immigrants, the Rimutaka had' a large passengef list for New Zealand; . The ship w^ favoured with fine weather on the voyage, except for two days shortly after leaving port, and the passengers thoroughly enjoyed 'themselves. Christmas was celebrated two days after clearing the Panama Canal, and to mark the occasion the saloon passengers gave a Christmas tree to the .children 6n boara1.;,'. The • „ function took place in the saloon, and was a , great success. Dances, concert parties, and plays helped ., to wile away the hours, and one night a fancy dress ball .wns held. The • spacious promenade deck was decorated with bunting and coloured electric lights, and it. was such a success that it was quickly followed by a second. The officers on board entered with zest into the arrangements made for the passengers' enjoyment, and helped ■ materially in making the amusements a. success. The health on board wae good, which in no small .way. went to make the voyage »o enjoyable:
