On clearing the Avonmouth train on its arrival at Paddington Station recently, one of the porters, to his horror, disoqv-
ered a large snake coiled up amongst some straw in the jjuard.'s .van. The snake was taken to the Zoological Gardons, where it was identified as a tropical American boa constrictor. Avonmouth being a port of arrival for South and Central American ships, it is probable ttiat the reptile was brought, over concealed in bunches of bananas. How it came, howover, to find its way into the fjuard's van nf tho Paddington train remains a mystery.
