The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Minis-' ter of Internal Affairs, has gone to Nelspn for a few days. The Hon.. J. G. Coates, Minister of Works and Native Affairs and Post-master-General, returned to Wellington to:day after a visit to the North Auck-^ land district, v The death is announced of Mr. William Bethwaite, who has been a resident of Nelson since 1858. Mr. T. M. Wilford, accompanied by ' Mrs. and Miss Wilford, ■ ■ returned , to Wellington to-day by the Marama from a visit to San Francisco. Mr. Scott Colville, manager for Messr*. J. and N. Tait, is at present on a visit to Wellington, making arrangements for the Hsifetz concerts, which commence to-morrow night. Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland .Employers' Association., who arrived this morning from the North, will leave to-night for Christchurch to attend ' the annual meeting of the Canterbury Employers' Association to-morrow. Dr. Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, will leave New Zealand next month cm a trip to the Old Country. He is going abroad on medical advice, and it is hoped that as a result of the .sea voyage he will be restored to health. Mrs L. W. Bourke. telegraph supeyin- ; tendent in ( Christchurch, has been trans-; ferred to Wellington, where he will hold the same office. He will be succeeded at Christchurch by Mr. E. A. Burr, assistant superintendent in Wellington. Sir Bobert Stout (writes The Post's London correspondent under date 1 of 6U\; July) has been compelled to submit to a few quiet days, as he has been troubled with the knee which was injured in the accident that occurred to him and Lady Stout before leaving New Zealand.,. Sir Robert is naturally greatly disappointed to have to give up engagements of interest, but ..the rest ib already proving beneficial, and he hopes \to be well enough to go to Oxford next week for the Congress of the Universities of the British Empire.
