THE WELLINGTON CLUB.

A committee meeting of the above club was held on the 2nd instant, when Mr. A. W. Gyles was appointed a member <$f the New Zealand Adjudication Board to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation (due to unsatisfactory health) of Mr. R. J. Barnes. ' A letter from the Otago Chesa Club suggested that -the annual telegraphic match be played on the 3rd and 10th September. It was decided to accept these dates subject to a wire being available. The club's B team (from which the club's first eight players are barred) plays thei Ngaio Club a fifteen-aside match on Saturday next, commencing at 7 p.m. Owing to the cut that has been made in the railway time-table it will be necessary to start the match an hour earlier than usual.

Better progress is being made in the club's championship tourney now that Mr. A, W. Gyles has'returned from a business visit to the South Island, and Mr. Purchas has returned from a trip to Sydney. The best scores to date are as follow:—E. A; -Hicks,. 5 wins no losses; R. J. Barnes, 3-0; Kelling, 5-2; W. E. Mason, 4-3; W. White, 2±-2i; S. Faulknor, 2-2; G; P. Anderson, 1-0; and A. W. Gyles, 1-1; D. Bruton, 1-1. In the club's 1921 handicap tourney the best tallies are now as follow:— Gyles, sen., B^s E. S. Taylor. 9-1; H. Jessup, 9-4; W. White, 7^-4^; A. L. Lawson, 7-2; E. A. Hicks, 7-3; A. E. Jessup, 6-3 ; VL: Sim, 5-2; D. Bruton, 5-3; R. J. Barnes, 4£-l£; A. S. T. Butler, 4^-ljL; Fbuhy, jun., 4-2; Wring, 5-5; C. Dryden, 4-4; Mrs. Gyles, 3-3; and Crandle, 3-3.
