Jashca Heif etz will open bis Wellington season in the Town Hall on Wednesday next. It is stated that Messrs. J. and N. Tait are paying him for his brief season in Australia and New Zealand a greater sum than has hitherto been paid to any other artist they have brought to Australia—Harry Lauder not excluded. Heifetz was in Petrograd during the war, and was preparing to take his place in the Russian Army when there cam© the dramatic fall of the Tsarist regime, and, after,a period ,of muddle, Heifetz, with only his music to live on in a country that hud made the manual worker the ideal citizen in an almost, foodless world, took the first opportunity to escape, and he and a few others made their way by slow and painful stages through Siberia to Vladivostok, - where he caught an American steamer.
