GOLF
The New Zealand champioiiship tournament will be played this year on the Shirley Links, Christchurch, commencing on Monday, 17th October. Entries close on sth October, and programmes will be available shortly. Tho West Coast championship will be played, on the Greymouth Links, 7th to ,9th SepI tember. • A gleasant evening in aid of the Lodge Extension Fund of the Girls' Friendly Society was held at the G.F-S.; Lodge this week. Musical and elocutionary items wore contributed by Mrs. Palmer, Misses Ballinger, Quinton, Pinkey, Dunn, Adams, Lethwirck, Hunt, Johnstone, Donnelly, Brittenden, and Leas. Winners of the competitions were G. Evans and E. Leas. Among those present were \ Mesdames Sprott, Hansell, Askew, Rawnsley, Webster, Cooke, Chapham, Misses Jenkyns, Fowles-Fowles, Owen, Oxford, Ballinger, Humphries, Quinton, Smith, Walker, Sister Constance, and many others, including representatives from the ProCathedral, St. Mark's, Brooklyn, and Lower Hutt branches of the G.F.S. The superintendent (Miss GleesonJ'is to be congratulated on arranging a most successful function, the proceeds of which will augment the Extension Fund considerably. The New Zealand ladies' golf championship will be played on the Heretaunga links, commencing on sth October.
