A PROTEST FROM LEVIN.
(IT TBLBQRAPU.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
LEVIN, 11th August. A large indignation meeting of all sections of the community passed motions last night protesting against the Racing Commission's withdrawal of tho Horowhenua Racing Club's permit. The' speakers included the Mayor, Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., the presidents of the Chamber of Commerce, the Racing Club, and the A. and P. Association. They claimed that Levin was entitled to a permit oa the Commission's own population basis. The Racing Club and the A. ' and P. Association had purchased the ground by the issue of debentures for £4500 two years ago, and have since spent £2600 in improvements; The withdrawal of tho racing permit meant the extinction of the show, as it would be unable to maintain the ground without the Racing Club's co-operation.
