LABOUR PROPOSES DRASTIC AMENDMENTS.

Labour members of the House of Commons introduced an Illegitimacy Bill proposing drastic amendments of the law, including a provision that affiliation applications may be made before a child's birth, a maximum weekly maintenance of £2, and a> father may be ordered to contribute towards his child's apprenticeship and special education. Maintenance may be ordered beyond the age of sixteen if the child is physically or mentally deformed. In tho alternative the Court may order the payment of a lump sum. A child may oe legitimised by the subsequent marriage of the par,ents. v ' ■ . •
