MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS

REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES AND

OTHER MATTERS,

The Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union met last evening.' There,- were 'present: Messrs. J. Prendeville (chairman), H. C. Buck, W. J. Hardham, W. W. Cook, F.SA. Laws, E. H. Ward, E. Perry, H. M'Leod, and J. N. MUlard.

The Wellington Referees' Association wrote asking that.steps be taken to see that the publio were under better control at Kilbirnie during the progress of matches, and so prevent a recurrence of the "disgraceful conduct of several of the public" during the course of a match there on the 30th July. It was considered that nothing could be done this season, as the matches to be played there were now practically completed. Regarding motions from referees' associations suggesting that all members of such associations be granted grandstand seats free, the New Zealand Rugby Union advised that the previous decision would stand, Le., that all referees be admitted to the ground free of charge and granted the equivalent rebate if they required, seats in the portions of the ground where a higher charge is made.

A letter was received from the N.Z.R.U. stating that admission charges for matches in connection with the New South Wale* tour had been fixed »t 2s for ground (children half-price), and 3a additional for seat in grandstand (no reduction for. children). During a discussion on the matter, it was thought that the charges were excessive, and Messrs: Prendeville, Hardham,'and Cook were appointed to interview the New Zealand Union regarding this and other matters in connection with the tour.

As the Marlborough Union was unable to arrange a junior representative match with Wellington for the 20th August, it , was decided to send the juniors to Nelson, advice having been received that the Nelson Union could accept a visit. Mr. H. M'Leod notified that he would be unable to act as manager with the junior B touring team, and Mr. F. A. Laws was appointed to take charge of the team.

A deputation, comprising Messrs. A. C. Kitto and J. Moffitt, from the Wellington Referees' Association waited on the committee to urge the desirability of submitting all names of referees available for representative matches. The deputation pointed out that there was no definite agreement about only' four names being submitted. ' It was agreed) after discussion, to give the referees', suggestion a trial. Regarding the tour of the senior B team, it was stated that Wairarapa would not be able to play Wellington at Carterton on the 20th August. The Rangitikei Union had, therefore, been communicated with for a match at Marton on that date, but a reply had not been received. ,

The position of the lower-grade competitions was discussed, and it was decided that the Third B and Fourth B competitions be discontinued. The other grade competitions were ne&ring completion. .
