PLANTING SOLDIERS' GRAVES

, Proposals have bean made by some people to plant New Zealand trees and shrubs in the English and French cemeteries where New Zealand soldiers are buried. As yet, no official sanction has been given to this proposal, and there are certain factors to be considered which render it advisable to obtain definite information before any certain steps are taken. In some of the cemeteries, it is known, there is no room for planting. Not all Now Zealand plants would provo suitable if the permission of the War Graves Association were obtained. For example, kowhai has been mentioned as a decorative native plant, but it will not prow in exposed positions, especially if heavy frosts are experienced.
