THE "DUTCH CITY" AT LENS
After the conclusion of the Armistice, % the Dutch Government offered the French Government 'the necessary materials for the construction of more than_ 500 houses, paying nil transport and providing flutch architects and builders to direct the work of construction. The/ French Govern- , ment at once accepted this offer. »nd now what is known as the -"Dutch City" hne bsen completed on the Lille-road at Lens. Each house is surrounded by a little garden, and schools, an hotel, public baths, and shops havo been constructed. Not only arc the brijrhtly-paintcd houses all finished, but they are already inhabited by some 2000 -people'; the shops »re well Stocked, tho children are attending the three schools, workore passing through the city are received at the hotol, and th© public hall k often thb scene, of cheery gatherings. -At Lievin, noar Lens, t second and smaller Dutch city is in «MTO of couEtruction.
