aidcrably, aud in the afternoon the sun was shining more brightly than it lias done for over a week. During the thunderstorm on I 1 riday night a large, macrocarpa tree near a house on Boundaryroad was struck by lightning and split in two, while a boarded fence nearby was also destroyed. The erosion of portion of of the river bank has 'continued at Fitzroy Bend, and a considerable amount of land has been washed away. A number of slight shocks of earthquake were experienced in Palmerston North on Sunday , evening, while one, | about 7 o'clock, was fairly severe. A motorcar driven by' Dr.. E. C. Barnett and a motor-cycle and side-car ridi den by Mr. A. B. Fields, of the local office of the Agricultural Department, came into collision at the corner-of the Square and Fitzherbert-stre'et, the front wheel of the motor-cycle being badly damaged. Neither the driver of the motor-car nor the- rider of the motorcycle was injured. A successful bazaar was held in the College-street School in aid of the funds towards the purchase of the section of land for tho new infant department, and a substantial sum of money "was obtained. While a motor-car driven by, Mr. Pearson, of Wellington, was 1 bein^ driven through Paekalcariki on Sunday a tire burst and tlie car capsized.- One passenger (Jlr. Hislop) received internal in- - juries, and was removed to the Otaki Hospital by Dr. Sharp.
