MASTEETON, Bth August.' Matron B. Nurse, of the staff of the Masterton Hospital, has been placed on tho retired list of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service.

At an informal meeting of Natives at Te Ore Ore on Sunday, Batana, the Maori faith-healer, said personally he preferred to cure white people, as they bad more faith and determination tban his own people, who were more liable to despondency. CARTBRTON, This Day. A meeting of the" Carterton School Committee was held last evening, Mr, J. M. Nicholls presiding. It was decided that the attention of the Education Board be directed to certain necessary repairs, and to ask that the work be authorised. ■ It was reported that a meeting of delegates from the district ■schools had been held to discuss the central library scheme, and it had been decided to circularise all the schools interested, sotting out the proposals. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. W. Howard 'Booth for arranging for the children to inspect the war trophies at Masterton, and to express regret ■ that the unsatisfactory train arrangements prevented the children from taking part. Applications are to be invited for the position of school cleaner. The recent children's dance showed a profit of Sl9. The board's attention is to bo called to the fact that the school is overcrowded through ths lack of the overdue accommodation.

A meeting of the Waii'arapa Electric Power Board was held at Ca-rterton this morning, Mr. J. C. Cooper presiding. The treasurer reported a balance of £2670 2s lid, and that the bank charge on overdraft, to September would be 6 per cent.. The question of a -store sito was deferred until next meeting, the engineer to be asked to submit proposals of a suitable building. The Public Trustee advised the. board to renow thoir application for loan- after the end of August, when conditions would probably be more favourable.
