BRITISH REVENUE INCREASES.

LONDON, 6th August.

The report of the Commissioners of Customs and Excise for the year ended 31st March points ■ out that the increased spending power of the people prior to the present depression produced the following increases in revenue over the estimates:—Spirits', £8,603,----000; sugar, £2,545,000; motor-cars, £896,000; entertainments, £879,000; matches, £597,000.

The revenue from beer showed a decrease of £4,422,000.
