VIOLENT ASSAULT
CONSTABLE BADLY HURT.

DUNEDIN, This Day.
Constable Hesse, of North Dunedin, sustained a broken arm and nine scalp wounds in an encounter with a man named Aitchison, to whose house hs went tp answer a complaint that Aitchison was assaulting his "wife. Alter the constable had left the house Aitchison' knocked him down, secured his baton, and beat him on. the head. He then disappeared, and has not yet been ai--rested.
