HUTT RIVER BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Hutt Eiver Board was. held last evening. Pre.semt : Mr. W. T. Strand (in the chair), and Messrs. J. Mitchell, S. Clendon, and J. Brasell. :
The Chairman explained that the reason Mr. Laing Meason had . been appointed ; permanent Engineer was that his services would always be available, And also that the Engineer was there to take the responsibility off the shoulders of the board. If anything happened, the responsibility would be on the expert. He desired to say that the appointment carried no slur on the services of Mr. Kershaw, the overseer. Mr. Kerehaw might be perfectly competent, but he was not an engineer, and could not take ■ the responsibility that an expert could. Mr. Clendon said he was quite in agreement with the chairman in retaining the services of Mr. Laing Meason. The only point he desired to raise iwas the ability of the board to afford the expenditure. ' Mr. Kershaw reported tli^t the river hod much improved a« a result of the floods.■■•■■ The |only iplaoe that, needed any attention was*nea<r Speedy's. The Finance Committee was requested to report on the insurances on board property, and to have the same insured to the full insurahle value. .
