• MASTERTON, 18th April. The Hookey Association commenced the season with a seven-a-side tournament at Carterton on Saturday. Eight teams competed, and after a very interesting series of games, Carterton finally defeated the Post and Telegraph (Masterton) team by two goals to one. The Wairarapa Friendly Societies held their annual football tournament at Masterton on Saturday. In a keenly-contest-ed final Druids (Masterton)), defeated Oddfellows (Masterton), by six points to three. , Bowling was terminated in Masterton on Saturday with a series of invitation matches* between Masterton Club and Park. The former won, in the aggregate, by twenty-nine points. In* a match for the Bell Shield Park won against a Masterton team. CARTERTON, 18th April. At the quarterly meeting of the Loyal Wairarapa Past Grand Lodge of Oddfellows, the following officers were elected:—President, Bro. W. Roper; vice-pre-sident^, Bros. A. Rippon, J. Shirkey; lecture master, Bro. C. R. Skipage; wardens, Bros. J. Shirkey and T. G. Hardie; committee, Bros. D. P. Loasby, J. A. Boake, L. H. Smart, and J. F. Wallis; auditors, Bros. A. P. Smith and L. H. Smart.

At a meeting of tho Wairarapa Ladies' Hockey Association, a proposal to amalgamate with the men's association was defeated on the casting vote of the chairman.

At the auction sale of meat in Carterton on Saturday, mutton averaged from 4Jd to 6d per lb, and pork from ojd to Bd. Bacon sold from 9£d and hams lid per lb. The Greytown Borough council has decided to support the nomination of Mr. J. F. Thompson as representative on the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

The South Wairarapa Branch of ■ the Returned Soldiers' Association held their annual reunion at Carterton on Saturday night. There was a large attendance, and the usual toasts were duly honoured. The Wairarapa P.A. Society has a membership of 978, being an increase over the previous year.
