PONBKE CLUB FUNCTION.

The Ponoke Cricket Club held ite first annual smoke concert in the Esperanto Hall last week, Mr. P. Laurenson (vicepresident) being in the chair. In proposing tho toast, "The Ponoke Cricket Club," tho chairman congratulated the club on its successful start. He also mentioned that Dr. A. K. Newman, M.P., and Mr. A. F. Wiren were unable to attend the f unotion.'' In reply to the toaet, Mr. E. M'Cardell (club captain) gave tho club's record for the past season. Three teams had been entered, and some good performances were put up. Mr. W. S. Hood (secretary) referred to the fact that the formation of tho club had come about as a result of the existence of tho Poneke Football Club. For a now club the result had been vory good. As a whole, the club had won more matches than it had lost, gaining 39 points against 36.

During the evening trophies were presented to players who had put up the best performances. The bowling trophy had been won by W. A. Hill, who had the splendid record of taking over 71 wickets at an average of 6.85 runs per wicket. This was the best performances made in tho Wellington district this season. Other tropUy winners were:—Best batting average.E. M'Cardoll; highest individual score, W. Boulnois; highest aggregate, C. W. Beatfcio; beet bowling- average, W. A. Hill; highest number of catches, W. Boulnois and J. Fox.

The following toasts wero also honoured _:— "Tho King"; "The Wellington Cricket Association," proposed by the chairman, and replied to by Mr. Bock; "Umpires' Aseooiation," "Our Oppoil" txfis," and "Kindred Sporto."
