WORKERS' EDUCATION

At the last meeting of the Wellington Centre of the Workers' Educational Association it was reported that prospects for the year were very promising, and that during the present week six classes would commence operations'. Those inolude two 1 olasses in economics, one of which will study advanced economics; two English l'terature olasses, one . of; which is composed entirely of lady students employed in State Departments j a psychology class; and a Maori lore class. It is also anticipated that by next week full classes will be under way for the study of eleotricity and hygiene, . and steps are being taken to form economics! classes at Newtown, 'Petone, and Lower Hutt. The membership includes . all classes of workers and others; but it is interesting to note that the proportion of office employees is ■ greater than any other seotion of students, indicating that, a study of advanced subjects is becoming a recognised essential in the commercial and industrial life 1 of the community.

The list of fortnightly Saturday night lectures is now almost complete, and will be advertised in the course of «. few days. The series comprises ,a great variety of subiects, each of which will bo dealt with by a recognised expert, and the lectures should prove both educative and interesting. ;■■ . ...

It was also Teported at * the meeting th»t generous financial support wm being received from local bodies and ■ private firms, and that 'the number of organisations affiliating was on the increase, the latest to link up being the Wellington branch of tho Eailway Officers' Institute and the Thorudon branch of the Amalgamated Society of Servants. All Wellington organisations of State employees are now affiliated with the Workers' Educational Association, and have representation on the Management Committee.
