Minnie Pomeroy, a' second offendinjr inebriate, was fined 20s.

George T.. Bailey admitted the theft of eeVen bottles of liquor, some smoked fish, napery, and two silver trays from the Grand Hotel, where he was employed aa a porter. Ho had no' explanation to offer, other than drink. In view of the facts that Bailey's previous record had been good and that he has a family o£ young children dependent on him, the Bench decided to admir hijn to probation for two years.

Kristian Jensen was further remanded to 9th instant on a charge of having as saulted Charles William so as to cause him actual bodily harm.

John Romney Gibbons, charged with breaking and entering a dwelling at Island Bay, was also remanded till 9th instant. 8 Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with bylaw cases . yesterday afternoon as follows : — Lionel G. L. Marshall admitted having lit a fire on his property- at Karori without having- obtained a permit, but said that hi« offence had been duo to an overeight. He was ordered to pay 7s costs. Frank Thomas, who. had left a motor car standing- in the street, was also ordered to pay costs. He explained that he was uniiblo to transact his business within the time allowed.

For exceeding the speed limit, Harry Little was fined 5s and costs, and Gerard Corvissiano and Harold Wall, whose offences had been more serious-, were each fined £5 and costs.

Wong Lowe was convicted on a charge of having allowed offensive matter to accumulate on his garden at Island Bay, but in view of the fact that he was a market gardener and had done his best to utilise the manure he required in such a manner as to give no offence to his neighbours, ho was merely ordered to pay costs.

F. M'Donald and C. Halcrou were each convicted on charges of having failed to pay tram fares, in over-riding sections. Halcrou was fined 5s with costs and witnesses' expenses, and M'Donald was ordered to pay costs and disbursements.

The failure of an expressman, Walter Davidson, to drive on from the Queen's Wharf when ordered to do so, and his action :in driving hie express on the wharf without permission, cost him 10s and £2 11s costs.

Frank Kettlewell was |ffined 5s and costs for having allowed stock to wander. A similar penalty was ordered against the Wellington Milk Vendors' Association.

William J. Keel, who had left a motor oar in a city street without lights, was fined 5s and costs.

Ernest James Smyth was oharged with having ore-ated a disturbance in a Chinese laundry ,iii Molesworth-street, but after hearing the evidence the Magistrate dismissed the information.

Mr. 11. F. O'Leary, president of the Wellington District branch of the Law Society, is leaving Wellington this evening on a visit to Blenheim and Nelson.
