CHARGES OF FALSE PRETENCES

At the Police Court, Sidney . John Bada.ms admitted five charges of obtaining goods or money by false-' pretences and three .charges of breaking, entering, and theft. 'He was committed for sentence.
John Ernest Brasting and William Mackey admitted sLi charges of obtaining good* by valueless cheques, and were committed for sentence on the two major charges and remanded on the others. The case was the outcome of an endeavour by the young men on 14th February to provision a yacht (which Brasting wrongfully represented he had purchased)' for a cruiss to the Kermadecs or San Francisco. The goods included benzine, oil', groceries, oilskins, and whisky, of a total value of £91' lip. Brasting admitted stealing a cheque-book from the yacht.
