"WAITOMO TO WELLINGTON"
CITIZEN-SOLDIERS' CARNIVAL.
The preparations for the citizensoldiers' carnival to be opened in the Town Hall on Saturday next are, it is officially stated, now so far advanced as to ensure one of the most brilliant and certainly most uniquo spectacles ever presented; in Wellington. A' pronounced attraction in the big event will be the decorations, which will be strikingly original, taking the forni of the reproductions of leading features of the wonderful Waitomo Caves. The project, naturally, is a superlatively difficult on© to accomplish, but the artists engaged, Messrs. Hanna and King, have triumphed over all the perplexing problems, and the public are guaranteed a feast of beauty which will surprise even the experts, so true will the representation bo to nature. The stalls will be like grottos of fairyland, with glistening stalagmites and stalaotites of delicate and wondorful colouring. There will also be the glow worm cave, which will be specially realistic. Previously, sceptical observers who have inspected the designs in preparation confess that their .doubts as to the practicability of carrying out the project havo been set at rest, and speak in enthusiastic terms concerning it. The scenery alone, it is asserted, will bs well worth a visit to tho Town Hall, but there will be many extras to assure entertainment to please all tastes. In this respect thero will always be something doing, and tho talent offering is of the best.
