OuT OF WORK

STOREMEN AND DRIVERS SBFMIR.

As a result of- the Tvaterfront trouble, the big stores are very slack, and the services of many casual hands have been dispensed with. This applies particularly to wool, hide, and tallow stores. Most of the .storemen in general merchandise stores are permanent hands, and very few of these have been discharged. If the trouble is not settled within a few days, however, it is feared that many more storemen will be added, to the unemployed list.

The week's notice to the drivers employed by the various carrying firms will expire'to-morrow. It has "already been stated that 80 per cent, of tho work done is connected with ship-pins;. One firm,. which does a considerable amount of shipping work, will be compelled to discharge a third of the drivers now employed. It is estimated that at least one-half of the drivers employed on shipping work will be discharged tomorrow. The Post was unable to secure reliable information as to the number of men likely to be affected.

About 1000 watersiders wore idle today.
