WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY.
The Wellington Gas Company's employees' annual picnic was held at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on -Wednesday, under ideal- conditions. Over 400 adults and about 200 children were conveyed to the park by special train, where a 1 most enjoyable : day was spent. A successful programme of sports events was gone through, the results being as follow:—100yds handicap: J.- Bargrayos, 1 1; J. Borry 2. Single ■ women's race (open): Miss E. Brittian, 1; Miss Whitcomb, 2. Married women's race: Mrs. Jim Miinn, 1; Mrs. Hook, 2. Thread' the needle: J. Hargraves, 1; R. Howard, 2. ligg and spoon race: H. Smallbone, 1; C. Tritt, 2. Sack race: G. Berry, 1; J. Olliver, 1. 150 yds Gas Company championship: A. R. Williams, 1; J. Hargraves, -2. , Married . men's race: Mr. ' -Barrett, 1; W. Urwin, 2. Visitors' . handicap, 100 yds: M. Trowers, 1; M. Lander, 2-. Young ladies' race (employees only): V. Brittin 11, 1; E. Brittian, 2. Married'women's race (open): Mrs. Cole, 1; Mrs. Parkor, 2. 440 yds handicap: A. R. Williams, 1; B. Waugh, 2. Ladies' guessing competition: Mrs. Hawkins. Tailing the pig: Mrs. Robinson.: Tug of war: Mivamar No. 1 Team (Mr. King, captain). Mr. M^. J. Kennedy, general manager, acted as judge. . Numerous races for the children were hold during tho day. Tho success of the clay's outing was due to the united efforts of a good working committee, which was as follows:. President, Mr. H.Whitcomb; treasurer, Mr. H. Jeft'ery; joint secretaries, -Messrs. W. Blake and E. B. Parsons; and Messrs. H. Alexander, J. Calnan, A. Hook, H. Chisholm, M. Dore, F. Saxton, J. Gudd, E Bowden, L. Scott, J. Moss. C. Tntt, W. Smith, W. Donaldson, W. Cullimore, J. Brittian, J. HargraveE, H. Smallbone A. Haddon, and A. D.avis. Splendid selections were rendered throughout tho day by the band, under-the conductorship of "Mr. H. Cummins.
