ANNUAL MEETING.
iTho annual mooting, of the Board of Governors of (lie New Zealand Institute was held in the Dominion Museum' today. : Professor Kasterfield, director of the Cawthron Institute, Nelson,- presided, and tho monitors present were • Professor 11. B. Kirk (Victoria College), Mr. B. C. Astou, Dr. J. Allan Thomson (director of the Museum), Dr. Chae. Chilton (Canterbury College): Dr. F. W. Hilgeiidorf (Agricultural • College, Lincoln), Dr. Cockayne, Dr. P. Marshall (Wanganui), Yon. Archdeacon •' Williams (GisborDe), Professor H. W. Sesar and Professor A. P. W. Thomas (Auckland), Mr. A! M. Wright (Christchurch). - The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Or. J._ Anderson) attended at the opening, and in a brief address said that £2000 voted for research had been available for some considerable time. The idea As to work in with the institute and the ■Oawthron Institute, but nothing had been decided yet) by Mr.' Parr and himself for recommendation to Cabinet. He trusted their deliberations would bo ■ in tho best interests of the Dominion. Anything done in the way of research would entail a large expenditure, and not so much could b» done with money now as before tho war. An investigation of the primary and secondary industries should result in a vnhiablo increase in production and export?. They would look to the^ scientific bodies of New Zealand for assistance along those lines, and he personally would be glad to speak at greater length on the subject when the institute, held its Science Congress at Pa.lmerston North, when ho would bo pleased to hoar the views of those present regarding what should bo done. He would reserve for the congress a fuller exposition of his own views. ' '
