NUMEROUS ATTRACTIONS
. For tha celebration of the eighty-first anniversary of rho province to-'mbrrdw various attractions have beon arranged which will make for tho enjoyment o£ the holiday 1. Weather prospects are not bright, but the Dominion Meteorologist, ■when ask. Ed to-day for an indication of what to expect, made tho encouraging remark that the weather "is hot so black as it looks." With fine conditions, there should be a big exodus from the city. , The chief attraction will be tho second day of tho Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Trentham. It in fully expected that the racing will draw a ro' cord crowd, and ample provision lias been mado by tho railway authorities to convey peoplo to the course. The racing should be of a very interesting order. For those intending to spend the holiday at the' seaside tho Worsei Bay Amateur Swimming_ and Life-Saving Club is catering with its annual carnival, which promises to bo tho moßt successful in the history of tho club. A lengthy programme includes numerous swimming events, as well as added attractions in the form of a qanoe race, a life-saving competition, and a boat race. Record entries have been received. ; The competitors include tho Wellington champions. Children aro being well provided for, arid a sand castle building cornpotition for boys and girls under 14 years will be a special feature. Afternoon tea will be procurable on the beach. The programme is timed'to commence at 11 a.m. The Caledonian Society is holding a picnic at Khanjdallah Reserve, and the Scottish Society and Pipo Band offers ite friends and members outdoor pleasure at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt. The . special interest. of the Early Settlers;. and Historical Association in Anniversary,' Day will be marked by a picnic at, Kelburn, near the site of tho Observatory.. ■'.' .!.-■'■• Another picnics will be that for the staff of the" Defence Department.
