MR. CHURCHILL'S APPOINTMENT ;
VIEWED WITH MIXED FEELINGS
LONDON PRESS COMMENTS;.
(UNITED I'KBSS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIOHT.) LONDON, 19th January. Referring to Mr. Winston Churchill and the' Colonial Secretaryship, the Daily News expresses dismay at the prospect of the appointment of so forceful a personality at a. moment when the Dominions are vehemently protesting against having to transact business with the Imperial Government through the Colonial Office officials. The paper regards as atil) less satisfactory the prospect of Mesopotamia, which will be still more Mr., Churchill's pl'aygi'ound if the inundated areas are transferred, to the Colonial Office. The Pall Mall Gazette says: "Mr. Churchill will preside over a significant development of the Imperial system betokening the emancipation of the Dominions from tutelage, The demarcation which it will bo Mr. Churchill's.lot to carry out symbolises the goal of all our political ideals and the attainment of .a stage where the community rests not on force, but on enlightened voluntary adhesion." >
