RAILWAY PICNIC
A DAY OFF FOR HEAD OFFICE STAJ?F. .
The annual picnic of the head office staff of Railway Department was held at Day's Bay yesterday under most favourable conditions. Something like five hundred staff officers with their, wives and, families made the trip, and tho General Manager (Mr. R. W. M'Villy) and all the heads of departments were present. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from the Right Hon. W. F. Massey (Minister of Railways), the Hon. J. Q. Coates, Messrs. A, T. Markmari (Secretary of the P^ and X. Depai-tment), J. Hisloi) ,(Under-Secratary for Internal Affairs), T. Ronayne (late General Manager of Railways), >T. Burnett, and J. H. Marchbanks. Competition in the sports events wasi keen and exciting. The .Maintenance Department won the championshiphonours by 35 points. The gathering concluded with the presentation by Mr. M'Villy of four challenge cups to the Maintenance Department, and with cheers for the General Manager, the Management Committee (V ai]d the secretary, Mr. P. St. J. Retail. Fallowing are the results of the sports: —
Aggregate Cup: Maintenance Department.. Relay Cup: Maintenance Department.' Tug-of-war.: Maintenance Department. Peterkin Cup: Maintenance Department (J Hunter), and Head Office (De Malmanche).
