THE TROUBLE AT GISBORNE.

(Bt TW.BSBAPB.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

GISBORNE, 18th January

The local manager of the- Union Company protests strongly against misleading statements from Hastings in connection with tho visit of Miss Bleibtre-y, the American lady swimmer. He states that the Mararoa was tendered as usual on arrival; in fact, by 9.45 p.m. on Saturday the vessel had taken on board in the roadstead a large number of outgoing passengers, and was well on tho way to Auckland. He had made special arrangements to bring Miss Bleibtrey's party ashore by special launch as soon as the vessel arrived in the bay. As far as tho steamer arrangements were concerned, there was no reason why Miss Bleibtrey should not have landed in ample time for the swimming carnival.
