NOTES ON THE PLAY

The game between Jury (Karangahake) and Smart (New Plymouth) yesterday afternoon held the chief atten-tion-of visitors.. They wore considered tho two strongest teams,,.and Jury, hav-' ing sustained no eliminating- defeats, held best positions in the tournament. It was an up-hill .i'jrht for New .Plymouth all the way. On the 12th head,the 'game tvas 1 10 all. After that Smart did not score for eight heads, and\on the 2Oth the ■ totals were. 17-14- .in. favour, of Jury, who was playing a. great game. In the last head, wanting three, to tie, Smart's team wero lying two until -/Jury's No. 3 rested the shpt bowl out. 'Smart: then rested, this bowl out. with a fin© one, and,-moved tho jack to another of his bowls. Jury' drew a good bowl, and then Smart essayed to "cut ■ one. out, which would have given him;five; but he went slightly narrow, and missed. Jury won by two. Beid ,vl»yall Bay) played an up-hill game against Eennie (Christehurch). Remiie's team, if anything, wero better on their /game, though they had any luck.thai was going! - The final, result vias fairly heavy in Kennie's favour. In ih^t&qie way London 7 (Wanganm), last year's champion 3kip, went down to the ,less experienced M'Whannel (Hataitei). On thelßth head the scores were 13 all, and on the ,20tVHataitai were 20-15.; Hataitai's drawing on the comparatively heavy green, Jraken all round, was superior, and really won the match.
