CAULFIELD MEETING
MELBOURNE, 9th October. For the Caiilfield Spring Meet-ing tho weather was brilliant and there was ,i splendid attendance. The Debutant Stakea provided a fine race. The Sydney colt Orion led into the straight, but was beaten ir. tho last fifty yards by Sefton, who ran very truly. Sefton established a record of 48Jscc for halt' a mile. Eurythmic was a pronounced favourite for the Caulficld Stakes, which he won. very easily from his stable mate, Tangalooma. The time was half a second outside the race record held by Traquetto. Results:—
Debutant Stakes, of 1500 soys; four furlongs.—Sefton, 8.0 (F. Dempcey), 1; Orion, 8.0, 2; Canterbury, 8.0, 3." Sixteen, starters. Wqn by three-quarters of a. length, the third horse half a length away. Time, 43ijs3c.
Caulfield Stakes, of 1000 soys; nine furlongs.— Eurythmic, 9.0 (F. Dempsey), 1; Tangalooma. 8.11, 2; Queen Comedy, 8.12, 3. Six starters. Eurythmic took charge at the home turn and won easily by two lengths. Queen Comedy was a length away. Time, lmin 54£ sec. Caulfield Guineas, of 2000 'soys; one mile.—Midilli. by Tresstidy—Lesbos, 3yrs, B.Q (G. Harrison), 1; Double Bezique, by Piquet—Your Majesty, 3yrs, 8.5, 2; Etive. by The Welkin— Ethne, 3yrs, 8.0, 3. 'Fifteen starters. Etive was first into the istraight, from Crimson, Fitz Arlington, Midilli. and Double Bezique. A great race saw Midilli win by a neck from Doublo Bezique on the extreme outside. Etive was a neck away, third. Time, lmin 41£ sec. Toorak Handicap, of 1500 soys; one mile.—Lord Setay, 8.5, .1; Red Dome, 8.0, 2; Sir Ibex, 9.5, 3. Seventeen starters. A brilliant race; won in the last stride by a' head. Sir Ibex, who was leading at the distance, finished a neck behind Red- Dome. Time, lmin 41|}sec.
