PETONE CARRIERS
As the outcome, of recent meetings of the Petone Branch of. the. Wellington General Carriers' Association, on increased tariff for the cartage of goods has juefc come into force. It is pointed out that) the ' Petone carriers* for many yeara pact have been at a distinct disadvantage as compared with ctty carriers, the. latter receiving prices on a. distance or time basis far in excess of those paid to' suburban members. Moreover, drivers' wages, horse feed, harness, shoeing, benzine,, and overhead expenses have increased considerably of recent years,' whereas there has not been a corresponding increase in cartage charges. Even under the new tariff suburban carriers are relatively on a poorer footing than they were in pr&vrar days.
