GIRLS IN PRINTING TRADE
SETTLEMENT BY CONCILIATION.
Mi. W. Newto-; (Conciliation Commissioner) presided at the adjourned sitting of tho Conciliation Council yesterday, ia connection with the wages and conditions of employment of girls in the printing and allied trades. Misses A. Downey, C. A. Waddington, and Mr. C. H. Chapman represented the workers, and Messrs. C. M. Banks and Fred. Pirani the employees. After a two hours' sitting a full settlement was arrived at, the chief points, being as follows:— Wages.—First six months; 17s 6d; second six months, £1 ss; second year, £1 ss; third year, £1 10s; fourth year, £1 15s; fifth year, £2 10s; cost of living bonus of 6s per week (including the bonus to be declared as from Ist October) was agreed to_» These wages and the bonus are to be paid as from 4th October. Girls are to be paid a call of Is 6d if notice of overtime is not given, before 11 a.m. j the call to be paid in any case to girls living more than one mile from factory. Girls on piece are to be.paid for time lost through stoppage of'machinery or other, cause not the fault of the worker.
The award is to oparafce from 4th October to 31st March, 1922. '■
