MEMBERS' SALARIES

THE FINAL ADJUSTMENT.

The Civil List Bill (No. 2) was put through its final stages by the House of Representatives last night. As finally passed, it provides for the payment of the following salaries to members of Parliament:—

Legislative Council: Speaker, £200; Chairman of Committees, £500; members, £350. Houss of Representatives: Speaker, £1000; Chairman of Committees. £750; members, £500.

The salary to be payable to the Prime Minister has been increased from £1600 a year to £2000. Several members urged that it should bo raised to £2500, but this Mr. Massey opposed. The salaries of the other Ministers have been raised by £300 to £13051. The rise of £300 in the case of the Maori member of the Executive Council brings his annual salary to £1100.

The increased rates are to date from 31st March ; 1920.
