A deputation representing Te Aute, College Board of Trustees, introduced by the Hon. Dr. Pomare, and attended also by Mr. Tau Henare, M.P., interviewed the Minister of Eduoation (Hon. C. 'J. Parr) this morning with a, Teque&t ■. for financial assistance for a school rebuilding, scheme. Grirfe' College and the two fires at Te Aute "during the war, the education endowments, were- encumbered. The college was working under great difficulties as regards , accommodation. Without some assistance, it v/as difficult to see how they could rebuild. They had' a building scheme which was estimated tq cost £14,000, and they suggested that the Government should meet them by providing half the money. These were the only schools in New Zealand providing higher education for the Maoris, and it,was the intention' ns far as possible. to specialise at Te Aute in the future on ..agricultural education for Native boys, so, 'that they; mieht learn to farm their lands.

The Minister said he recognised, the fine work being done at Te Aute. He could not make any promises, but, he would take an early opportunity of acquainting himself with the full particulars, so that he might place the matter before the Government. He would inform Dr. Pomare of the result.
