RATEPAYERS' MEETING TO-NIGHT
The City Council's loan proposals, involving a- sum of over one and a-half millions- sterling, will be discussed at a meeting of ratepayers, to be held tonight in the Town Hall. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke, M.P.) will present the case from the city's point of view, and councillors will speak in support. It is important that as many ratepayers as possible should attend to hear the position fully explained. At a meeting of the Eastern Suburbs League last evening, it was agreed-that the ratepayers of the Eastern Suburbs District express gratitude that the City Council has placed in the loan proposals the items of the tunnel and trams for Melrose. It was resolved that the league, while entirely in sympathy with the major portion of the loan proposals, considers success would bs assured if the council would postpone the 'poll for a month with the object of reconsidering some of the proposals, and the, regrouping of same. Three speakers were selected to speak on the loan proposals at tonight's meeting
