WADESTOWN'S REQUIREMENTS

Wadestown people feel that in drawing up the schedule for the big city loan the City Council completely forgot that their district was a portion of Greater Wellington. They have looked in vain for any proposal to spend money in the Wadestown district. Then they have looked at their roads, and they have come to the conclusion that they were entitled to some mention in the schedule. The Wadestown Municipal Electors' Association has considered the matter, and-members expressed concern because the district had been totally ignored. The following motion was carried: —"That this committee is of opinion that the time has arrived for a comprehensive scheme of street improvement for the Wadestown district, and also feels it is a matter of urgency, in. asmuch as there is no sum allotted to the district in the loan proposal shortly to be placed before the ratepayers. This committee begs to request that the City Council will allot a sum in the direction indicated, and will at least get from the City Engineer a-report dealing with the question." A Wadestown elector, writing in connection with the proposed tramway extensions, states that just prior to the end of the war" the Mayor (Mr. J P Luke) made a statement through the press to the effect that the first big undertaking after the war would be the linking up of the Wadestown tram with Northland, via Creswick._ The correspondent thinks that a further public statement is wanted from the Mayor low, explaining the reason why this is not included in the present loan proposals. The City Council, he points out, has acquired 125 acres for building purposes on the Wilton Estate, it has placed main water-pipes on the road from Wadestown to Northland, but still there is no word of the trams.
