HOUSING APPLICATIONS.
The President of the Board of Tra.de was asked by Mr. E. Newman (Manawatu) in the House of Representatives whether he would give instructions that Material needed for the construction of farm buildings and farmhouses should be exempt from 'the 'regulations issued! iecently. - The~Temoyat;qf tire restrictions 1 in the way he had suggested would greatly facilitate the building of the necessary accommodation on farms. The Hon. E. P. Lee replied that he was afraid he could not recommend the proposed exemption. It was quite, simple to secure a permit for necessary work, and there was no reason why there should be delay. Mr. Newman remarked that at the last meeting of the Rangitikei ■ CountyCouncil, he .was told that- there was great delay, and that theTo were over 400 applications awaiting attention, to which Mr. Lee replied that he would have the matter looked'into, but,- as the County Council itself had power to issue permits under the regulations, the delay must be its own fault.
