PALMERSTON N., This Day, A visit was paid to Palmerston North yesterday by the Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister of Internal Affairs) for the purpose of inspecting the banks of the Manawatu River, where a considerable amount, of erosion has taken place recently. Tho Minister was accompanied on his tour of inspection by the Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P.), and members, of the Palmerston

North-Kairanga River Board.

A meeting of the executive ot thi. Manawatu Farmers' Union was held at Levin on Saturday, Mr. F. W. Hubbard (president) being in the chair. A motion, proposed by Mr. A. Buchanan (Palmerston North) was carried in favour of having an agricultural college established in Palmeraton North, but Mr. 0. P. Lynch (Paraparaumu) objected that delegates should have had notice of the motion, ami this contention being upheld, it was deoided that the. proposal should be circulated amongst the branches in the form of a remit. -It was deoided to accept the offer of Mr. Stephenson, agricultural master at tho High School, Palmerston North, to hold for the benefit of farmers two or throe field days during the year to explain hi 3 work. Amongst othSf remits from branches that were endorsed were those in favour of dairy. farmers having first call on cement stocks for essential purposes, and of the Government veterinary division pushing on with the serum treatment so as to prevent abortion in dairy herds. \Vhile_ playing football for the Returned Soldiers' Association team ,at Feilding on Saturday, C. Newth had a rib fractured, and C. Thomson sustained'some nasty outs on the face, necessitating the wounds being stitched up. ■ A local far.ner has received a letter from his brother in the United States saying, that New Zealand mutton and lamb are bwng sold in tEat country at 2s per poundl for hind quarters and Is 7d per pound for forequarters. Messrs. Bishop Bros, have purchased 150 acres of Mr. J. D'Ath's pronsrty at Ohau, and propose ffoing in for dairying. It is expected that a start will be made with the erection of a new Post Office at Ohau at an early date. , ;
