The Hon. G. J. Anderson was heartily congratulated this morning by delegates from the conference of the New Zealand Federated Town-planninj Association upon his- elevation to Ministerial rank. A slight improvement in Mr. William Allan's condition is Teported this afternoon. Mr. W. A. Smith, on resigning the secretaryship of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund, was voted £100 in recognition of his fine service. Mr. G. H. Scales, of Wellington, and Dr. T. A. Jagger, United States Government volcanologist at Hawaii, left Auckland on Wednesday by the Makura, the former for Vancouver and the latter for Honolulu. ■ Formal notification of the appointment of Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., as. chairman of all appeal boards set up to hear appeals in connection with the grading of teachers, is contained in this week's Gazette. Mr. L. K. Crow, who was recently successful -"n passing the first professional medical examination 'of the New Zealand University, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Crow, of Sed-don-terrace, WelIngton South, and an ex-student of Wellington College.
