MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
The meeting of the Wellington City Council held last night was attended by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke, ,C.M.G., M.P.) and Councillors E. A. Wright, M.P., J. Hutchison, J. Glover, C. H. Chapman, J. 0. Shorland, \J. M. Dale, W. H, Bennett, B. G. H. Burn, J. Burns, T. Forsyth, G. Frost, J. W. Henderson:, M. Luckie, L. M'Kenzie, and J. Thompson. The Leasehold Committee recommended "that a«f offer for renewal of a Corporation leasehold for twenty-one year periods at 4 per cent, on the basis of existing valuation be accepted."— Adopted. On the recommendation of the Legislation Committee it was resolved to support the recommendation of the New Plymouth Borough Council that the Government be requested to extend the operations of the State Advances Department to allow of larger amounts being granted to local authorities by way of loan. It was resolved that the use of the Basin Reserve, with the right, to charge for admission, be granted for representative matches as undew:—Wellington Football Association, 19th June; Wellington Provincial Rugby Football League, 3rd July; Wellington Provincial Rugby Football League, 14th August. Authority was granted for the reserve at Lindum-terrace to be re-estab-lished. The Outlying Districts Committee reported, that it had received a deputation from the Eoseneath and Oriental Bay Municipal Electors' Association with reference to better communication and reading facilities to that district. The difficulties which the council was contending with were pointed out, particularly in connection with the supply of cement. The deputation was informed that consideration would be given to its request when the cement supplies were obtainable. A proposal for the storage of oils on certain land at Kaiwarra was approved, subject to the location of, the buildings being determined by the City Engineer, and to the buildings being constructed according to the requirements of the City Engineer. The Finance Committee reported,that provision be made on the estimates for the current year for construction of a culvert from Aim-crescent to the sea, ' the estimated cost of the work being '£300. This was agreed to. Arrangements for a motor delivery service to Kcsencath, as authorised by the council, are to be put in hand at once. Provision is to be made on the estimates for the construction of a high level footpath at Upland-crescent!
