DISPUTES UNSETTLED.
** .The latest dev/jlopments regarding the "demanHs made bj the ..tramway employees and the-general labourers in the employ--of the- City Council reveal no satisfactory settlement. When questioned to-day as to the present position, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. iL'uk"e)' said : "The Finance Committee of "the City Council met the tramwaymen last week in conference, and conditions were submitted. As a result, the men's representatives decided to place ibefore their union the proposals made iby the council, intimating that they did ijot think there was much chance of aciceptance. The union has now considered ithe conditions proposed, and they have fceen turned down, with,a request for a further conference. '' ;'■' /, ■ the frenera'l labourers met iKe Finance Committee a week ago, and their demands were considered and counter-proposals were made. The men's representatives decided to place the new conditions suggested before the men. They in turn have also refused to accept them" "and ask for V further conference." • .
• ',The council has decided to .accede to the requests of the tramwaymen and the general labourers for further conferences.
